Are you thinking about starting a blog? Or do you want to improve your existing blog?
With 20 years of blogging behind us now, there is a huge collection of brilliant articles online, and even more terrible ones.
Within that history, company blogs have only recently become popular.
What should you write about?
The most important thing to remember when blogging is that it isn’t about you or your company. It’s all about your customers.
When writing you should always think about what they find interesting or helpful.
You can cover the latest developments in your industry, frequently asked questions, top tips, or upcoming events.
Try a variety of topics – if you update your blog regularly you will soon start to get a feel for what is and isn’t working for you.
Can you be too helpful?
Don’t worry about giving too much away.
The reality is that almost anything can be learnt from the internet. There is a bottomless pit of YouTube videos and blogs about every subject imaginable so if people want to learn to do what you are doing, then they will be able to. But once they realise the expertise and hours involved, who are they going to think of?
Blogging is a perfect way of demonstrating your authority on a topic. It creates a memorable impression in prospects minds that will put you top of the list when they are looking to buy.
Google loves bloggers.
Blogging is also great for SEO for a few different reasons.
Google favours new content so you may be able to slip ahead of competitors just by keeping it updated regularly. If you write something that people like enough to share on their own websites, then this will also push your ranking up as it indicates to Google that the content is worth seeing.
Blogs are also super helpful for keyword optimisation, but that is a topic for a future blog.
